Here’s a little blast from the past… On October 25th, 2007 I made an appearance on Real Life on CTS. This was a promotional appearance for CreativFestival and I was one of three MGVC crafters who got to show their wares and get crafty with the show’s lovely hostess, Sharon Caddy. For the occasion I designed a purse which I called “Swimming with the Fishes”

Using new and recycled denim, Chinese silk, batik quilting cottons, wool flannel, FIMO and fancy yarns I created an whimsical appliqued purse front. The face of the female figure was formed using a mold purchased from Michael’s and hand painted. The fish was hand painted on denim using Colour Vie pigments. During the segment I led Sharon Caddy through the five steps required to paint the fish.

Embarrasingly I managed to get some black fabric paint on my index finger during set up. I couldn’t get to a sink to wash it off (the sink on set was just a prop) so I had to shoot the segment (hand close ups and all) with paint stains on my hand! C’est la vie I guess. Apart from my little paint problem all went very well. The cast and crew were phenomenal… very friendly to work with and Sharon proved to be an excellent painter!
