Polar Bear Fall 2024 Day 3

November 24, 2024

The Polar Bear Series delivered another day of tight competition on Sunday, with crews battling it out over two intense races in the frigid waters off Stanley Park. This time, Thursday’s Child showed its mettle, claiming a first-place finish in the day’s opener and a fourth-place in the second race.

Both races followed the same course: a windward leg to the QC buoy off Stanley Park, a downwind sprint to a tanker ship, and a return to the start line. The layout demanded precision sailing, as wind shifts and tidal currents created opportunities—and pitfalls—for every boat in the fleet.

Thursday’s Child came out strong in the first race, executing a flawless start and maintaining a steady lead. The team’s coordination was evident as they rounded the QC buoy cleanly and capitalized on downwind speed. The second race proved more contentious. While Thursday’s Child sailed a clean race, the competition was fierce, with the top four boats finishing within just a few minutes of each other.

As the series progresses, crews will continue to refine their strategies for courses that demand a mix of tactical acumen and boat speed. For Thursday’s Child, the challenge now is to build on their momentum and remain a consistent contender. The next installment of the Polar Bear Series is set for two weeks from now and will be the last of 2024.
