Polar Bear Winter 2023 - Day 5

The starting line was deployed for a light wind from the North and the fleets were dispatched onto a course around some freighters a seemly impossible distance away near the North shore. After a disappointing start, TC spent the next two hours or so with our drifter up moving frustratingly slowly towards the “windward” mark. After several confusing wind shifts and a relatively smooth rounding, the wind settled on a Southerly direction and was strong enough to warrant a headsail peel to the #3. We made some gains on the return leg, but in the end finished near the back of the fleet.
